The Relationship between Adverse Childhood and Adult Problem Solving

Children raised in stressful environments are typically associated with reduced cognitive performance in adults. However, recent studies suggest that whilst childhood stress may impair some cognitive performances, it may actually improve specific cognitions, such as cognitive shifting. This improvement is believed to be an evolutionary-developmental adaptation to their environment.
